Water Bills
A new term, a new start. I’m sure you are all looking forward to returning to Liverpool to be reunited with friends and housemates (although perhaps not so much with the study). Unfortunately, as far as utility companies are concerned, it’s a case of ‘new tenant, same old bill’.
If you have opted to manage the gas and electric yourselves for the up-coming year, then you may have already set up an account with one of the many energy suppliers on the market. If you haven’t done so yet, please see our ‘Bills’ blog from two weeks ago; it gives you a brief of what to do if you’re new to setting up bills.
If you were wondering how to set up an account for your water usage during your 2012/13 tenancy, then wonder no longer: the account will already be set up in your name, or your lead tenant’s name to be exact. United Utilities are the company responsible for supplying Merseyside and other parts of the North West with fresh, clean, drinkable, showerable water. As of this year, it is a requirement that a landlord -in the knowledge of his/her prospective tenants- must provide United Utilities with the names of the those on the tenancy agreement for that property. Therefore any bills in your name from United Utilities dated from 1st July 2012 (the start of your tenancy), must be paid by you. If you discover a bill either in someone elses name or dated prior to 1st July 2012, then please bring it into the office.
Similarly, if you come across any other bills or letters that are not addressed to you or any of your housemates (or are addressed to ‘Elgin Management’) please bring them into the office as soon as possible. We will kindly ensure they make it to their righful owner!
